About

tietnet is a very small IRC network designed to foster discussion and friendship. Unfortunately, on many great IRC networks, you have to worry more about protecting your channel and finding decent irc servers than actually communicating.

We're not trying to replace, but merely supplement large general IRC networks with something that (hopefully) fosters discussion and more open available.

We are home to the discussion of the darker sides of art, music, poetry and literature, encouraging a friendly cohesive atmosphere for all artists, musicians and writers. Other types of discussion are free to enter the forum, but please keep in mind that we do not find topics of an illegal, harassing or pornographic nature to be appropriate. With that in mind, please come in and join us!

IRC clients

There are many IRC clients available; dozens for each platform or operating system. Here is a short list of the more popular ones for some of the widely used operating systems. These are only the more popular ones I see floating around.

In addition to these, some web browsers have a built in IRC client, or one can be added via a add-in module, plug-in, or extension. Chatzilla is one such example of this. Most people will want to get a stand-alone client, as they consume less resources and have better functionality and features.

AmigaOS

Atari (ST/TT/GEM, etc)

BeOS

MacOS (Macintosh)

MS/DOS

OS/2

PalmOS

UNIX (FreeBSD, Solaris/SunOS, Linux, IRIX, and so on...)

UNIX with X11 (FreeBSD, Solaris/SunOS, Linux, IRIX, and so on...)

WAP (devices capable of WAP, like cellphones and pagers)

Win32 (Windows 95/98/MI, WinNT/2K/XP)

You may also want to look at Google's directory for IRC clients. Or check out Freshmeat.

Feel free to suggest any changes or updates to this list.

Servers

Most people will need a resolving IP in order to connect. Dynamic dialup, cable, or dsl pools will not require an identd to connect, everyone else will. If you have been able to connect to other irc servers, you will have no problem here.

Currently one server. More will be added as load dictates.

Help

tietnet specific questions can be asked in #tietnet.

IRC client questions are best asked in the forum appropriate for the particular client (check your docs). I'm not trying to be unhelpful, just realistic. Chances are no one in #tietnet uses the same client or setup that you do.
